GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - Jonathan Toews' college coach isn't surprised that the 22-year-old captain of the Chicago Blackhawks was named playoff MVP after the team wrapped up the Stanley Cup.

University of North Dakota head coach Dave Hakstol says Toews is a winner who is tough to bet against.

The Grand Forks Herald says Toews is the first Western Collegiate Hockey Association player to captain a Stanley Cup winner, and also the first WCHA player to win the Conn Smythe Trophy as the best player in the NHL postseason.

UND captain and Toews friend Chay Genoway says, "How cool is that?"

Toews was an all-American center at UND. He left school early after the 2007 season to sign with the Blackhawks.
