Twins Have Issues to Solve

After late surge, Twins still have issues to solve

By: Dave Campbell, AP

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins are packing up for the offseason after an early ouster from the playoffs by the New York Yankees.

The Twins surged through September but were swept by New York.

The Twins had a lot to like about 2009, their final season at the Metrodome, including increased power from a lineup that scored the fifth-most runs in the majors. They overcame many injuries to win their fifth division title in manager Ron Gardenhire's eight years in charge.

They're still trying to figure out how to get over that first-round hump while stars Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau are in their prime.

Exactly six months from now, the Twins will open the 2010 season at Target Field.
