PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A South Dakota regulatory panel has approved a wind farm of up to 110 turbines in southeast South Dakota.
The PrairieWinds project would be built by Bismarck, N.D.-based Basin Electric Power Cooperative on 37,000 acres between White Lake and Wessington Springs.
The three-member Public Utilities Commission approved the project unanimously. It includes building a 13-mile transmission line to feed the electricity to a substation.
Basin Electric says some federal permits are needed before construction can begin.
