Airport Authority Passed In Thief River FallsThe joint powers agreement between Thief River Falls and Pennington County will make it easier to get funding from the government.
Thief River Falls had a council meeting tonight and passed an airport authority to get funds they will need in the future.
This joint powers agreement between the city and Pennington County will make it easier to get funding from the government.
The council talked about the importance of the airport, how to keep up with needs and what the future holds.
Thief River Falls Mayor, Steve Nordhagen says the airport has many needs and getting this authority passed is a step in the right direction.
"We need to expand our airport to make longer runways, we're working with the college, with unmanned aircraft." said Nordhagen,"There's just a bunch of things that are coming to a head and we just felt that this was the time to form this authority so we could be proactive and make an airport be what it needs to be."
"I think it's very important that this airport be supported for the local economic development of the region." said commissioner Darryl Tveitbakk, "That's really why the county got onboard I think is that we feel it's important to support this region's economy and I think you folks also feel the same way about that."
Nordhagen says the airport is growing at a rate they need to keep pace with and passing this Authority tonight will help them do that.
