FARGO, N.D. (AP) - As promised, the state Board of Higher Education has dumped across-the-board raises for college presidents.

The board on Thursday approved salary increases between 1 and 2.75 percent for presidents at most of the state's 11 institutions. Last year the board gave 4 percent raises to all presidents who were eligible for increases.

University system officials say the state has approved substantial raises for presidents in the last few years, and the current salary ranges are competitive with other states.

The board approved a 2.75 percent raise for university system Chancellor William Goetz, increasing his salary from $208,000 to nearly $214,000.
