Some Grand Forks residences started their day with a bang.
At about nine o'clock on Thursday morning lighting struck this tree during a thunderstorm. On the 600 block of 25th avenue south, neighbors say the tree literally exploded. Bark and branches were thrown over several properties.
The Grand Forks park district took down the rest of the tree a short time later. Crews say the strike was likely more damaging because of a high moisture content in the wood.
