ALBERT LEA, Minn. (AP) - Emergency officials in Minnesota say three people are dead after a series of tornadoes tore through the state.

An official in Freeborn County says up to nine tornadoes ripped an 18- to 20-mile path through rural parts of the county, damaging 40 to 60 farms, but sparing larger communities.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and the state's emergency management director plan to visit the tornado-stricken area today to survey the damage.

Heavy damage has been reported in Wadena. The mayor's wife, Lori Wolden says houses are "half-gone" and no trees are left in the southwest part of the town of 4,300 people.
