GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota head men’s hockey coach Dave Hakstol announced today the 2010-11 men’s hockey schedule, which will feature 37 regular season games, including 18 at home and 19 on the road.
With two home exhibition games also on the schedule, Sioux fans will have the opportunity to see UND play on 20 home dates.
Highlighting the home schedule are seven Western Collegiate Hockey Association series. WCHA rivals scheduled to visit Ralph Engelstad Arena in 2010-11 are Denver (Oct. 29-30), Minnesota Duluth (Nov. 5-6), St. Cloud State (Dec. 3-4), Minnesota (Jan. 14-15), Nebraska-Omaha (Jan. 21-22), Alaska Anchorage (Feb. 11-12) and Bemidji State (Feb. 26-27). Both UNO and BSU are in their first year as WCHA member schools.
UND will also host non-conference opponent Notre Dame in the annual Subway Holiday Classic Nov. 26-27. It will mark the first appearance in Grand Forks for the Fighting Irish since the 1999-00 season.
In other non-conference home action, UND will host Robert Morris Jan. 7-8. It will be the first-ever meeting between the Sioux and the Colonials, a member of the Atlantic Hockey Association.
The Fighting Sioux, who last season advanced to their eighth straight NCAA tournament and won the Broadmoor Trophy as WCHA Final Five champions, will open the 2010-11 season with an exhibition game against the University of Manitoba on Oct. 3 at Engelstad Arena. UND will also host the United States Under-18 team on Dec. 18 to open the second half of the schedule.
UND’s road schedule includes an appearance at the season-opening Kendall Hockey Classic in Anchorage, where the Sioux will face host Alaska Anchorage and Alaska (Fairbanks). UND will also travel to Maine for a non-conference series with the Black Bears.
Also in non-conference play, UND will travel to Minnesota Duluth when the Bulldogs open their new arena on Dec. 30 in the annual U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame game. It is the second new arena UND will help open this season; the Sioux will travel to BSU Oct. 15-16 to open the Beavers’ new rink in the WCHA season opener.
UND went 25-13-5 overall last season and 15-10-3 in the WCHA.
