Absentee Ballots Available Starting Today In Minnesota

Officials say there used to be a 30-day period for absentee voting but now it is up to 45 days

The primary election in Minnesota is still over a month away, but starting today you can get Absentee ballots in the state.

Officials say there used to be a 30-day period for absentee voting but now it is up to 45 days to give people more time to get those ballots in.

The ballots are no longer counted at the precinct level, now there is an absentee ballot board to make sure every vote gets counted.

Officials say they haven't had a board like this in quite a while, but they think it will help.

" It's to provide a consistency to the processing of the absentee ballots for the process by each of the 82 voting precincts we have in accounting. Polk County Auditor and Treasurer Gerald Amiot said. “We have a large number of precincts."

Absentee ballots are available from today through August 9th. Primary election day in Minnesota is August 10th.
