Three years in the making Cirrus Design Corporation is about halfway to bringing its first jet to the personal aircraft market. It is roomy, comfortable and in two to three years, Cirrus hopes the SF50 will broaden their base.
"It's always been a goal of Cirrus to develop a light jet," Said Gary Black, Cirrus Jet Sales Diretor.
Three years later the SF50 is closer to being on the market.
"I think this is going to be a game-changer and bring jet travel to be very affordable for small businesses," said Black.
With a pricetag of about $1.5 million, the jet is designed to be comparatively low-cost and also a bit greener.
" This will be very economical to operate. Just by virtue of the single jet engine. It's going to burn far less fuel than a twin engine jet."
The step-up jet is made from carbon fiber and aluminum..making it sleek and fast. Black says it has 19,000 lbs of thrust and can go 1,000 miles. Black, who has flown the jet, is smitten.
It's an amazing handling jet. It's comfortable, smooth, quiet. To be able to travel direct from Grand Forks to Grand Island Nebraska. You can't do that by driving or other airplanes."
