Both Riverside and Elks Pools were broken into last night after they closed. Police are investigating the burglaries that resulted in damage to the pool buildings and stolen money.

The Grand Forks Parks District says the burglar pried the doors open at the Elks Pool and smashed two windows at Riverside. The Safes were broken into and cash was taken from both pools. Grand Forks Park District Superintendent Bill Palmiscno says the stolen cash is minimal compared to damage to the doors and windows, resulting in nearly $1,500 in repairs.

"They worked pretty hard on getting through them, and they did quite a bit of damage on the locks. We have a system here in the park district that is an expensive system maintained through the park district. They're expensive locks to replace," said Palmiscno.

He said despite the break-ins, both pools opened on time today.
