Patriotic Kids Parade Downtown

Families showed off that red, white and blue and competed for prizes.

One of the many events at the celebration downtown today was the patriotic kids parade...families showed off that red, white and blue and competed for prizes.

The parade is judged and there are seven different categories, even the family dog can win a prize for best dressed.

Parents marched alongside their kids for three blocks from the Town House down to Times Square.

Organizers say this event is fun to be involved with and the hardest part is being a judge.

"Watching all the kids in their costumes is really fun to see how excited they are and all the work that goes into all the things they put on and put together." parade chairperson Dawn Scott-Larson said. "We had three judges, they just went through, and seven categories including bikes, groups, individuals, pets, infants, most patriotic and wagons."

This year there were over twenty pets involved and around 1-hundred-40 kids.

The prizes were from area restaurants, hotels and shops.
