A man has survived crashing his ultra-light plane into Maple Lake over the weekend. The call came into the Polk County Sheriff's Office at 4:20pm Saturday afternoon that a man had flown his ultra-light plane into Maple Lake near Mentor, MN. The man was able to get out of his seatbelt harness in the aircraft and make it to safety after the plane had hit the water. The Polk County Sheriff's Office did not identify the man, saying that he was "ok" and more worried about getting his plane out of Maple Lake. Mentor Fire and Rescue and Fertile Fire and Rescue all helped at the scene. A WDAZ viewer sent in pictures and video of boaters helping the man after the crash landing as he swam to safety. The viewer says a pontoon pulled the plane out of the water.
