"I'm hoping to go on a cruise this winter," but before her cruise, Rita Lang had to get in line. Some people have been in line for a while.

"I've been waiting in line for 25 minutes," said one man.

This is why the Grand Forks Post Office has been a bit busier lately.

"If I get it on Wednesday it will be $35 more," said Ann Sande

The 'it' Ann Sande is referring to is a passport, and everyone is hurrying to get one before prices go up July 13th.

"It's longer than I thought it would be. Certainly longer than I'd hoped it would be. I'm retired, so I have nothing else to do but wait in line," said Sande while she waited in line.

The US Department of State announced rates would go up. The cost of an adult passport will go from $100 to $135. Applicants under the age of 16 will see an increase to $105 with the fee, up from the current $85.

"I've been saying I'm going to get a passport, going to get a passport. Well then I found out I could save $30-$35, whatever it is. I thought I better go for it. Get it today," said Lang.

People across the country have had the same idea. Some waiting for hours. Enough time to think about what they will do with the extra cash. Lang already had an idea.

"That'll maybe buy a tank of gas! I can travel to work and back...a few trips!"
