How should the Alerus Center pay for concerts?
Tonight the city council talked about the concert fund, and how much the city should help the event center with concerts.
Representatives from the Alerus Center came to the meeting tonight to find out the process of what's next to stay ahead financially in the coming year.
Although the Alerus Center is no longer in the red for next year's proposed budget,
City council members want to know where some of the money is going.
Officials from the Alerus Center discussed how they research available artists and fees, getting approval from the finance committee, and now they want to present all information through the City Council to get approved.
Money has been set aside for a concert fund, and council members discussed the process.
"I think the idea was is to fund the concert fund and it's first dollar in first dollar out. So as the money comes in from the concert, and the money you all get from that when you start selling your tickets. You replenish the fund, so the fund will always be there as full as it can be." Grand Forks city council member Doug Christensen said.
Officials from the Alerus Center want to meet with the city council again to discuss more details of the fund and answer further questions.
The Alerus Center is looking into new ways of advertising and getting some smaller acts to keep a balanced budget.
