A new wellness center in Grand Forks is a few donations away from becoming a reality.

The Grand Forks Park District discussed its proposed "Forks Area Health and Wellness" center at The Chamber today.

Costing around $27 million, the park district wants an affordable and accessible place to workout for the community.

They are about to start their public campaign, hoping to attract small business donations.

The Park District says they are just $4 million short of their goal.

They're teaming up with places like the YMCA and Altru Health system with a goal of preventing obesity and inactivity early in life.

" To really do something as a community comprehensibly about. We're really excited. We got to get kids active more often and on the right foods," said Park District Director John Staley.

Staley said they are working privately with a few more donors to help raise funds.

If they can do that, they should be able to break ground in the fall.
