GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - A judge has rejected the appeal of a Grand Forks man who asked to withdraw his guilty plea in an adoption fraud case.

Jesse Hutchison pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud last month. Authorities say Hutchison and a Grand Forks woman were involved in a scheme to defraud aspiring parents through a San Antonio-based adoption service.

Hutchison said he should have been allowed to withdraw the plea because his decision-making was influenced by a form of autism called Asperger's Syndrome.

U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson says Hutchison provided no medical support for his claim and was competent to enter a plea.

Amy Petrick, also known as Amy Galloway, pleaded guilty to two counts in the case and is scheduled for sentencing Aug. 27.
