The North Dakota Firefighter and EMS Recruitment Campaign is getting some help. With a new federal grant, several counties in North Dakota will be better able to recruit new members.
Officials at the Finley fire department say this federal grant is $230,000 dollars. Several counties, including Steele, Gregson and Nelson are using the money to reach a younger audience.
They are able to have more types of advertisement, and be present at more college and job fairs.
Finley Fire Chief Merle Ferry says the grant is helping a lot because many smaller counties are struggling to find new recruits.
" Most of the small departments are in the same boat. Their members are all getting older. There just isn't enough younger people coming up," said Ferry.
The recruitment campaign has been in the works for ten months.
