GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu has
appointed an official from the University of North Dakota's Energy
and Environmental Research Center to serve on the National
Petroleum Council.
John Harju, associate director for research at EERC, will
represent the views of institutions engaged in energy and
environmental technology research.
The National Petroleum Council was created by President Harry
Truman in 1946. The council is slated to undertake two major
studies during the term, including future transportation fuels and
prudent development of North American natural gas and oil
resources. The EERC has several programs that address those issues.
