Samantha Pitts of Fargo says the loss of her 4-year old son, Tayton, has been devastating.
She wants other parents to know the accident happened in a split second.
“It’s not just a death in my family,” says Samatha Pitts. “It’s part of my story is missing.”
Family remember Tayton as a loving boy. An energetic 4-year-old who was enjoying a family reunion outing at a motel outdoor pool in Grand Forks.
“It’s burnt into my mind,” Pitts said. “The way he looked and how lifeless he was.”
Tayton's mother Sam had run to the store to get things for the reunion. Her brother was watching Tayton, who almost always wore floaties.
Pitts said, “If I could go back, I would be there. I would probably have one adult per child, if I could go back.”
Efforts to revive Tayton failed. But today, family proudly wear organ donation bracelets.
“We did not give up praying for a miracle until he went into the operating room,” Pitts said. “I prayed and prayed and prayed until I couldn’t any longer.”
The little boy now living on in others who benefited from the family unselfish decision to give.
“If it was my son who had that fighting chance,” Pitts said as she fought back tears. “I know that I would be honored to have some other parent give us that chance. And I know Tayton would have wanted to help.”
