Three-hundred anglers competed up and down the Red River all afternoon to try and catch the largest catfish. But Danny and Tyler Messelt reeled in the biggest catfish today. It was 20.8 pounds.
There were 150 two-person teams fishing on the river today.
There were also kids games, inflatables, and food vendors set up at the event.
Event organizers say the catfish bites were slow, but the weather in East Grand Forks today was perfect.
"Early reports are that it has been a little bit slow with the water levels going up and down with the rain to the south of us, you know, with the water coming up. The bites have been a little bit slow so far, but we're still seeing a lot of catfish though," Chamber of Commerce President Barry Wilfahrt said.
This year's event is bigger with more games and activities for kids. Tomorrow will be filled with events and music for kids starting at 12:00 p.m. And tournament awards will be at 6:00 p.m.
