With one week until Minnesota's primary election, three candidates are eyeing the sheriff's seat in Polk County.

"Just the kick and fun people got out of dunking us," said Jim Juve.

Getting dunked was not necessarily a bad thing.

" It felt really good. It was hot and humid. Getting wet felt good," said Barb Erdman.

Two of three candidates said taking turns on a dunking booth at an event in Fosston was one of the ways people have gotten to know two of the candidates campaigning for Polk County Sheriff.

" We have a good feel for what's going on in the county. I think the county feels positive about us," said Erdman.

"Room for improvement in certain areas, but a good positive outlook on the sheriffs office," said Juve.

Erdman, Juve and Trent Stahlecker, who did not get back to WDAZ on the interview, will be on the ballot for polk county sheriff in the primary run off August 10th. Only two will advance. All three work for the Polk County Sheriff's office. Erdman and Juve said they both have an idea of what would make a good sheriff.

" He would work patrol now and again, go out and help with investigations now and then. Be out in the public and assist with calls," Juve said.

" We have less law enforcement available in the county than in the past. The long and the short of it is the sheriff's office is going to have do more with less funds, " Erdman said.

Both think a strong presence is a must.

"We have to look at activity levels and make sure we have adequate coverage in the county," said Erdman.

" United, being a team. Law enforcement can be a lot like a team. I don't want a huge separation between administration and guys on patrol," said Juve.

With one week left, there is still plenty of time for the candidates to campaign.

"Getting out there to meet the communities. Figure out what are the issues. What do people want to see in a sheriff," Juve reflected on his favorite part of the campaign. Erdman agrees it is about the people.

" I Talked to a lot of different people. I think People appreciate the personal contact."
