The Associated Press is reporting that Brett Favre won't return for a second season with the Minnesota Vikings.

A Minnesota Vikings player says Brett

Favre has texted his teammates and told them he plans to retire.

Tight end Visanthe Shiancoe says his teammates told him about the messages, though he has not heard from Favre himself.

The associated press reported earlier today, Favre told coach Brad Childress his injured left ankle is not responding as well

to surgery and rehabilitation as he had hoped.

Thought the team has not made an official announcement, a few fans weighed in on the news.

"Last year he didn't get the job done. I think one minute he's a hero, the next, he'll live with this the rest of his life. He made one bad play," said Pat Bomer.

"He just needs to make up his mind whether he's going to stay in the NFL or not," James Fluellen said. One fan thought it was about time Favre left footbal.

" It is Good thing he retired, or did not sign up. He's getting kind of old and injury-prone," said Stephanie Brooks.

Coach Childress told reporters he is not a big here-say person and he is waiting to here it from Favre.
