Cars lined up down 8th Avenue South in Grand Forks just waiting to get into the Leever's Parking Lot on South Washington.

People were waiting to get their hands on fresh Colorado Peaches. And the money they were handing over for the 18 pound boxes is part of a fundraiser for a local youth organization.

The non-profit Youth for Christ organization in Grand Forks had cars lined up for blocks as they unloaded hundreds of boxes of Colorado Peaches this afternoon.

"We're a youth ministry and all the money goes towards us being able to build relationships with students and develop healthy relationships with them and introduce them to 'Who is Jesus?'," Youth for Christ Director Cody Weckerly said.

The youth ministry holds the fundraiser every year. The peaches are $29 per box and each box has about 40 peaches inside. This year, 650 boxes were pre-ordered.

"They're a little more expensive, I'm sure, than you can buy on special at one of the stores, but there's just no comparison to the quality and the fundraiser itself," Mary Gebhardt said as she waited in line.

"We did it last year, we only sold 1,000 cases, and this year we have 1,000 cases on our first order so we tripled our order this year," Weckerly said.

With 1,000 cases on this order, 750 cases for August 19th, 1,000 for August 26th, and 500 cases to sell on September 2nd.. Who is going to buy all these peaches?

"My sister and I are sharing three lugs this year. But there have been times when I've organized my firm where I work and have ordered as many as eight," Gebhardt said.

"They're the juiciest, most delicious peaches in the state and seriously people wait all year long," Weckerly stated.

If you missed out on today's sale, there are about 400 cases left and Youth For Christ will be back in the Leever's parking lot at 11:30 tomorrow morning. You can also pre-order the peaches to pick up on the next three Thursdays at www.grandforksyfc.com.
