A 19-year-old Grand Forks woman is facing several charges after police say she hit a couple vehicles, a fence, and drove through a construction area. All this happened in a Grand Forks school zone.
19-year-old Brittany Bruce was arrested around 2:15 early this morning. Police say the vehicle she was driving crashed into two vehicles and messed up a construction zone.
"Walking around we noticed that we have squeal marks over here and come later to find out that there was a drunk driver that ran through our barricades" said Travis Herman with Opp Construction.
When an Opp Construction crew showed up to work on 13th Avenue South in Grand Forks this morning, they noticed that their bobcat and freshly poured concrete were damaged.
Police say 19-year-old Brittany Jo Bruce was driving home under the influence as she crashed into a truck then into a construction zone. Bruce then hit a fence and a skid loader on her way out of the construction area. And all this in a school zone.
"It was just fortunate that it was early enough in the early morning hours that there was not really any one in the area" says Lt. Grant Schiller of the Grand Forks Police Department.
Construction workers say that the damage to their bobcat and some city property was not that extensive, but they were a little surprised.
"It didn't really keep us from doing anything, but it's just the idea of I mean someone came through and hit our bobcat and went through the barricades caused a little bit of damage to some city property" Herman said.
Bruce is charged with Driving under the Influence, Driving without liability insurance, and leaving the scene of an accident. Officers say all this could have been avoided.
"In this community we have so many available options just don't drink and drive. You got taxi people, you got friends you got ah dial a ride I mean you just have to exercise good judgment" Schiller said.
Bruce has never been issued a drivers license.
