Authorities have released the names of the two men who drowned in the Red Lake River over the weekend.

The victims are 28-year-old Darrin Marvin Austin from East Grand Forks and 24-year-old Michael Tyrone Glover from Grand Forks.

The Red Lake County Sheriff's department says the two were tubing on the river Sunday afternoon when they got off their tubes in shallow water north of the County 13 bridge to retrieve some garbage that had fallen into the river.

As the men walked toward shore, they stepped into deeper water and were unable to make it across.

The sheriff's department was called at about 6:30 and searchers recovered the bodies at around midnight. The Sheriff's department says foul play is not suspected, and it appears to be an accidental drowning.

Red Lake County Sheriff's department says the drownings serve as a reminder that currents and unpredictable water depths make the Red Lake River dangerous to anyone who is not a strong swimmer. The department says anyone who is not an experienced swimmer should never leave their tube because shallow water can become deep quickly.
