Two Minnesota Congressman say they want to help make sure a Fargo-Moorhead diversion doesn't overwhelm the flood defenses of downstream cities.

Two Minnesota Congressman say they want to help make sure a Fargo-Moorhead diversion doesn't overwhelm the flood defenses of downstream cities.

Congressmen James Oberstar and Collin Peterson were in Oslo today to hear about their flooding problems and how the diversion might effect them in the long run.

Right now the Congressmen are looking for funding to either raise the dikes or raise Highway One that runs through Oslo. Highway one flood every year and closes off the town.

Now that FEMA has remapped the floodplain, the City of Oslo might have to raise its dikes.

Florence Elden the Mayor of Oslo,MN says "Right now we are going though a certification problem with FEMA and we've got till April and I don't think how we are going to be able to meet time schedule."

Not having this certification could mean higher insurance and building restrictions for Oslo homeowners.
