Construction Begins On New Retail Center in Crookston

A private developer is hoping to have a new retail center open in Crookston near the first of the year.

The executive director of Crookston Housing and Economic development said a few businesses are already interested in renting a spot at this new center.

Construction workers have already broken ground right in front of the Wal-Mart off U.S. Highway 2. Officials said the area has some of the highest traffic counts in Crookston.

The $700,000 project is being funded by private developer SCC Properties incorporated.

The center is looking for a few more shops to fill the space, and the possibility of a national restaurant chain.

"He's working with a couple of other local businesses and so, once it's up and running, then we'll have a better idea of exactly who is moving into those spaces," said Crookston Housing and Economic Development Executive Director Dan Johanneck.

The property would also have a paved bike path nearby, allowing for a direct connection to the University and to downtown Crookston.
