Little Interest in Devils Lake City Commission Seat

Theres an open spot on the Devils Lake City Commission that needs to be filled. The city is holding a special election for the position.

There were two seats open for the June election, as well as, the position of mayor.

When Dick Johnson took over as mayor, that opened another.

The commission could have appointed someone, but because the votes were so close they decided to let the people vote.

A special election is being held in November and city officials say having an open spot like this doesn't happen very often.

Terry Johnston, Devils Lake City Administrator/Auditor, says, "the only other time they've had an opening is when somebody was called to service in Iraq and then they just appointed somebody on an interim basis until he got back.

Papers to run were due at 4pm today and as for 1:30pm only one person had turned them in.
