Big Summer Numbers For RR Recreational AreaLabor Day weekend marks the end of summer for most people. Many will spend the holiday at the lake or camping. The Red River State Recreational Area in East Grand Forks is at or near capacity this weekend...but that's nothing unusual for the park as it experiences another record year.

It's the second weekend this summer for camping at the Red River State Recreational area for the Mark Friesen family. They are visiting from Altona Manitoba.
Mark Friesen/Camper : "We have about four or five families that came down for a couple of nights."
These kind of family outings have helped the state recreational area in East Grand Forks break some records this year. Park Manager Gladwin Lynne says they have had 4000 more campers this year than last.
Gladwin Lynne: "Best year ever. Of course we have increased our facilities, The summer has been up all year. This year things are on the up."
Reporter: Lynne says about 70,000 people will camp at the recreational area this year. To accommodate the growing number of campers they have been gradually building new camping sites. Including 15 full service sites this year. Lynne says the majority of campers are usually Canadians. Mark Friesen's family says it's an alternative to lakeside camping.
Mark Friesen: "Golfing this morning. There is a great park here, Sherlock is what I think it is called. Movie theatre across the street."
Lynne says because this is also Labor Day weekend in Canada, most of the campers in the park this weekend are Canadian, others include Americans who are visiting relatives.
Lynne: "This kind of signals the start of the fall season when we have less campers. A lot of our campers come stay over night and then move on."
Lynne says American Crystal Sugar Company has reserved about 20 camping sites later this month for temporary workers who travel to East Grand Forks to work during the sugar beet harvest. The campground will close for the season in the middle of next month.
