UND Employee Hit By Car Still Hospitalized
73-year-old Loran Carl remains in a coma after being hit by a car on the UND campus
University of North Dakota employee Loran Carl remains in a coma after being hit by a car while crossing a campus street on September 7.
According to Carl's Caring Bridge site, he is on a respirator and feeding tube.
Carl has a major injury to the left side of his brain, a broken leg and ribs, skull fractures and three fractured vertebrae in his neck.
The accident happened about 8:00 am Wednesday near the Facilities Building on campus. Carl was crossing the street in a crosswalk when he was hit by a car driven by 22-year-old UND student Josiah Nordmark. The accident happened in the 3700 block of Campus Road.
UND Police Chief says morning sunlight glare may have been a factor in the crash as Nordmark was driving East. The North Dakota Highway Patrol assisted in the accident which is still under investigation.
