The City of Crookston is re-doing the stairs outside of the Crookston Sports Center, after the previous stairs presented safety concerns.

The Sports Arena opened last January and since then they have been looking at what needs to be updated.

City Administrator Aaron Parrish said contractors tore down the stairs that start from the parking lot and go up to the building today.

They will not be paying extra costs for the project and will only pay the amount in the pre-established contract.

The re-do is at the expense of the contractor. He said the new stairs were supported by the entire council.

" Some of the height on the stairs didn't meet the building code, so, we needed to make sure it was code-compliant. That's really the reason for the adjustment," said Parrish.

The new stairs should be ready toward the end of this month.
