Matt Malm Benefit Helps Family

More than 700 people showed up today to a benefit supporting former Grand Forks South Middle School teacher Matt Malm.

Malm was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor almost a year ago.

This is the second benefit that has been held for him.

More than 30 volunteers put the benefit together selling wristbands, food and holding a silent auction to raise money for the family's medical expenses.

Volunteers say they're happy all their hard work has paid off.

"Over the past month and a half because of the community it has evolved into something far exceeding what we could of imagined. We are very thankful for today and the turnout that the community has shown." benefit volunteer Ali Parkinson said.

Malm also used to coach the Red River hockey team.

Volunteers say him and his wife have done so much for the community, and it's good to see everyone helping them out.
