Sugar Beet Harvest Resumes
About 75% of harvest done.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — The sugar beet harvest in the Red River Valley of eastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota has resumed, after a four-day stoppage due to cold weather and rain.
American Crystal Sugar Co. opened most of its receiving stations on Sunday, enabling farmers to begin digging beets again. The rest of the stations are to open Monday.
The farmer-owned cooperative estimates that nearly three-fourths of the 442,000-acre crop has been harvested. The harvest could wind up this week if the weather cooperates.
