Altru Donates Millions To New GF Wellness CenterPark Board officials say with this multi-million-dollar donation, they can break ground this fall.
Six and a half million dollars: that's how much Altru Health System is donating to the Grand Forks Park District and the YMCA. Five million of that will go to a new Health and Wellness Campus, now being called Altru Wellness Village, in Grand Forks.
Park Board officials say with this multi-million-dollar donation, they can break ground this fall.
Jim Bollman with the Grand Forks Park Board says, “It's a very important step to bring the Choice Wellness Center to this site.”
Park District Director, John Staley, says, “It did take a significant step like Altru has given us to really put us in view of the horizon, and we're there.
Along with the donation, Altru will also be offering services at the campus, focusing on preventing illnesses, improving access to primary care, building a world-class sports medicine program, and improving the health of children.
Altru CEO, Dave Molmen, says, “Owing to child obesity and other lifestyle-related issues, we may have the first generation of children in our nation that don't have the advantage of the same health status and longevity.”
Programs and campuses that officials say are being made possible by a unique partnership that hasn't been done anywhere else in the nation.
Altru Health System President, Dr. Casey Ryan, says, “Our goal in being here is to shift from treating illness to preventing disease processes.”
Molmen adds, “In fact, the biggest determinant of the health of our community to the future will be the lifestyles that we have and how well we take care of our bodies.”
The other million and a half Altru donated today will go to the YMCA to expand its services and fix up the building.
