University of North Dakota officials will hold a briefing next week to go over their plans to retire the Fighting Sioux nickname and logo.
A campus-wide email sent out today invites students, faculty and staff to a briefing next Monday. The email says two groups have been formed to help with the transition. One will look at how the nickname can be formally retired and in what ways the university can acknowledge the history of the name.
A second group will look at how to heal the divisions between supporters and opponents of the nickname..and the best ways to keep people informed during the transition process.
A group that will look at how to come up with a new nickname and logo will not be put together until an unspecified later date.
The briefing will be held at noon on Monday at the Lecture Bowl in the Memorial Union.
