NDSU has New Starting QB

EGF's Mertens benched.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota State has switched starting quarterbacks, naming freshman Jose Mohler to start in Saturday's game against Missouri State.

Mohler will start instead of Nick Mertens, a senior who has completed 105 of 193 passes for 1,341 yards and nine touchdowns, with eight interceptions.

NDSU is struggling with a 1-6 record after losing 28-13 to South Dakota State last weekend. Mertens completed 15 of 31 passes against SDSU.

Bison coach Craig Bohl said the offense was "not operating at a high level" and said Mohler, a redshirt from Cardiff, Calif., will have a chance to show his skills.
