Barnes County North Voters Reject Bond Issue

Voters in the Barnes County North School District in southeast North Dakota have rejected a $14.5 million bond issue.

LEAL, N.D. (AP) — Voters in the Barnes County North School District in southeast North Dakota have rejected a $14.5 million bond issue.

The measure would have allowed the district to replace its three existing facilities with one centralized school near Leal for its 300 students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.

Superintendent Doug Jacobson told KOVC-AM that voter turnout was heavy on Monday, but the bond issue failed.

So the district will have to continue using its existing schools north of Rogers, at Wimbledon and at Spiritwood.

Voters also rejected a proposal that would have increased the district debt limit to an amount equal to 10 percent of its taxable valuation.
