VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) — The latest proposal for North Dakota prep basketball and volleyball calls for three divisions during the regular season but only two state champions.
The Forum says the proposal will be voted on by North Dakota High School Activities Association member schools on Oct. 21 in Bismarck.
The plan has undergone an overhaul since it was first introduced in June. The current Class A would remain unchanged as a newly named Class 2A division. Class A would be the next-largest 40 schools, and the approximately 75 schools remaining would be Class B.
The plan calls for four Class A qualifiers and four Class B qualifiers to be randomly seeded to begin the state tournament, with only one champion crowned for those two classes.
