FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (AP) — A 74-year-old grandfather from western Minnesota says being choked by his grandson might be a blessing in disguise for the teen.

KSAX-TV reports that a criminal complaint alleges 19-year-old Dillon Stave of Algona, Iowa, knocked over his grandfather and choked him for about 10 seconds on Sunday afternoon.

It allegedly happened in Maine Township right after Erwin Field removed the teen's sunglasses and asked him to help fix up a store owned by Field's daughter.

Stave told police he briefly held his arms over his grandfather's throat and then ran because he knew law enforcement was after him.

Stave had a warrant for his arrest in Iowa and has now been charged with assault and fleeing police.

Field says some jail time might be just the thing to turn his grandson's life around.

Stave remained in the Otter Tail County Jail on Thursday.
