GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Heavy rainfall has prompted threats of flooding in the Grand Forks and East Grand Forks areas.
The National Weather Service issued flood warnings for the Red River in those communities after reports of up to 3 inches of rain Thursday and Friday. The river is expected to reach its 28-feet flood stage at Grand Forks by Tuesday evening and continue to rise another 5 inches by Wednesday afternoon.
But Grand Forks city engineer Al Grasser told the Grand Forks Herald that flooding won't be a big concern until the river reaches 38 to 40 feet. He says the anticipated rise may flood some low-lying bike trails but that's about it.
