Grand Forks police are moving ahead with a plan to fix their telephone system permanently after their phone service failed for nearly a week.
The Grand Forks service safety committee looked at a plan that would piggyback the police department's phone service with the city's.
The cost of the move would be more than $34,000, but police say it will eventually save money.
The current police phone system was installed 12 years ago at a cost of almost $78,000 dollars.
Because of the age of the phone system, no maintenance contract is available.
911 service was not interrupted during the outage, and the police and sheriff's departments set up cell phone numbers for non-emergency calls.
