Carma: “About 4 out of 5 car seats are used incorrectly.”
That's why Safe Kids along with members of Calvary Lutheran Church held free inspections.
Mark: “You're adding to the safety of these children and families.”
Some things Safe Kids looks for are recalls, if the seat fits correctly in the vehicle, and if it's installed properly.
Carma: “More important than the seat they select is making sure they read the instructions for the seat and make sure they are using it correctly.”
North Dakota law requires children under the age of seven use a car or booster seat. For some people, finding the right one is difficult.
Cathleen: “I mean getting that car seat was horrible because purchasing it, all cars are different, the seats are different, and the way they make the car seat and parents are not informed about that.”
Lezlie: “Which is why Safe Kids is making sure parents know what kind of restraint they need.”
Mark: “This is a major initiative in our community and it's about ensuring every seat is safe. That's a lofty goal but you do it one at a time and something like today really helps I think.”
They are working together to make that car ride safer for everyone on the road. One tip is to check height and weight limits on car seats.
