Clay County authorities say 21-year-old Austin Nieland from St. Cloud moved a barricade on Saturday to drive on the stretch of road that had just been resurfaced.
Nieland hit a piece of pavement machinery at the intersection of Highway 52 and County Highway 10. Deputies say Nieland admitted to drinking before the crash, but it's not clear yet if he'll face DWI charges.
