BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A former Bureau of Indian Affairs jailer has been sentenced for having a sex with an inmate.
Officials say 37-year-old Judson Elk of Belcourt had earlier pleaded guilty to a charge of sexual abuse of a ward.
Court documents say that Elk had sex with an inmate while he was employed as a corrections officer in August 2009 at the BIA detention center in Belcourt.
U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland sentenced Elk to time already served and five years of supervised release.
