GF Library Trying to Get People Interested in Reading

The library is getting ready for their first "Big Read" event, and giving away books every day over the next month.

Grand Forks Public library is getting ready for the first "Big Read" event, getting the community interested in reading.

The event is put on by the National Endowment for the Arts to help with literacy in the state.

People can register to win books every day at the library over the next month.

The event kicks off next month featuring the book "The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brien.

"It's a good book for Grand Forks because it deals with the military which we have the military base here, so they've always been a part of our community. So it's a way of our community getting to know a little more about that military life and stuff," Reference librarian Mary Lorenz said.

Time O'Brien will be in Grand Forks to talk about his book on October 14th.
