North Dakota Household Income Increases

The latest census estimates show North Dakota is the only state to show an increase in median household income from 2008 to 2009.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) - The latest census estimates show North Dakota is the only state to show an increase in median household income from 2008 to 2009.

The report says North Dakota's household income in the survey period rose 5.1 percent, from $45,497 to $47,827.

Thirty-four states saw a decrease in income from 2008 and 2009, and 15 states remained about the same.

Real median income in the United States decreased by 2.9 percent.

Estimates in median household income ranged from more than $69,000 in Maryland to more than $36,600 in Mississippi.
