ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - More than 300 people have died in traffic crashes in Minnesota so far this year.
The state Department of Public Safety says as of Wednesday, the state's preliminary death count is 303. That compares with 313 deaths at this time last year.
But despite reaching the 300-death mark, safety officials say Minnesota is still on pace to have its lowest traffic death count in 66 years.
Minnesota is on pace for 405 traffic deaths in 2010. That's fewer than the 421 deaths in 2009, the lowest since 1944.
