MINOT, N.D. (AP) — A Canadian man who tried to enter the United States after he was deported has pleaded guilty in federal court.
Theodore Halter is charged in North Dakota with re-entry of a deported alien. Authorities say he climbed over a fence near the International Peace Gardens on Aug. 27.
The 55-year-old Halter was deported on March 10 after he was convicted in Minnesota of felony domestic assault. He told investigators he was on his way to Rochester, Minn., to settle a personal issue with the Social Security Administration.
Halter faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 3 in Minot.
