NEW LONDON, Minn. (AP) — A soldier from the west-central Minnesota town of New London has been killed in Afghanistan.
His father tells the Star Tribune of Minneapolis that 22-year-old Army Pvt. Ryane (RYE'-uhn) Clark was killed Monday when his convoy was attacked in Shekhabad, south of the capital of Kabul. He was killed instantly by a rocket-propelled grenade.
Rick Clark tells the newspaper an Army chaplain and sergeant told the family late Monday afternoon. The Defense Department has not yet announced his death.
Ryane Clark was part of the 57th Engineering Company at Fort Bragg, N.C., and had been in Afghanistan since Dec. 2.
The West Central Tribune of Willmar reports that Clark was a 2007 graduate of New London-Spicer High School, where he was a wrestler. He was also an Eagle Scout with Troop 228 in New London.
